What you don't know CAN hurt you!

Download wordart here

It's amazing the things you can learn in a day. Some things make you happy and you're glad for the lesson. Others hurt your heart and you wish you unlearn them. Some things you learn help you know what to do or what not to do in future situations. The most imortant lessons are the ones that keep you safe!

Tonight I learned that frozen pizza sometimes has a piece of cardboard frozen to it's bottom. That's one lesson I REALLY wish I had learned earlier. I think the smoke has almost cleared. lol!

So, what did you learn today?

The Day Ginger Snapped part 11

Download wordart here
"Ginger, I'm so glad you finally answered your phone. I want to tell you a couple of things before you call the bar today."

I couldn't decide if Bonnie sounded scared or worried or both and that scared and worried me.

"Has something happened? Bonnie, is everything OK?" I looked around as I waited for her answer.

"Oh, everyone is just fine. It's you I'm worried about. No one has heard from you in a couple of days and we didn't know where you were. Gail has started a petition at school to force you to come back and seek serious medical attention." Bonnie tried to laugh, but I could still hear the worry in her voice.

"Just how does Gail plan on enforcing that petition if no one knows where to find me?" I questioned.

"Well, I don't think she has thought it through that far. Besides, no one is signing it anyway. I don't think you realize how much money people have riding on this."

"But it's only the regulars at the bar that are betting money, right?"

There was no response from Bonnie. "Oh my God, Bonnie, please tell me it's only the regulars at the bar!" I tried to keep my voice quiet, but it was getting hard.

"Well, it has kind of gotten a little bigger than that." Bonnie answered hesitantly.

I swallowed hard and closed my eyes, "Bonnie, just how much bigger has it gotten?"

"Well, do you remember that big American Idol party we went to a few years back when that girl from here made it to the finals?"

"Oh my God..."

"Calm down! I was going to tell you that it's not quite that big yet. Do you know some guy named Alden Cassidy?" Bonnie tried to quickly change the subject.

"No. Who? Wait, I think he's a writer that I met on the plane into Charlotte. Why?"

"He called the bar looking for you. He left his number with Hal and asked him to give it to you. Is he cute? Do you want the number?"

"Yes, he's cute and no, I do not want the number." Inside my tummy was doing little somersaults!

Alden Cassidy, the most beautiful man in the world had called me!

"What's wrong with him? Is he another loser?"

"Oh Bonnie, I think he's about as far from being a loser as they come." He's wonderful. "I don't want the number because he just wants to use me to write some cheesy story to make fun of me and have even more people laughing."

"Do you want me to call the number and tell him to go to hell?"

"Thanks, but don't bother. He'll forget all about me soon enough. I better hang up and call back on the bar phone."

"OK, but if anyone asks, you haven't talked to me."

"You got it. Thanks for calling."

Pay It Forward!!!

Download wordart here

When I have the time, I love to visit your blogs. I admit that I don't do it as much as I should and want to, but it is always so much fun to see what everyone else is blogging about and creating. Wish I had just a fraction of the crafting talent my blog readers have!

Well, the other day I visited Di's blog: Pixie's Crafty Workshop and lucked into a Pay It Forward blog post. I love getting and giving presents so I just had to join in on the fun!

Now, you can get in on the fun too! All you have to do is agree to pay it forward yourself. If you are one of the first three people to leave a comment on this blog post saying you want to join in on the fun you'll receive a surprise in the mail from me. You, in turn, have to make a pay it forward post on your blog and agree to send something to three people.

I will be receiving something from Di and I just can't wait to see who I'll be sending gifts to. So, comment and post away people! Let's get the fun started!

Don't worry, I'm fine, but...

Download wordart here

"Don't worry, I'm fine, but..." Is how I started several phone calls on Sunday afternoon after being hit by another car on the interstate. It's also how I want to start this blog post, because I am fine and surprisingly so is my car (kind of).

I guess that if you have to be in a car accident, you should be in one like I was in. No one was hurt, the guy who hit me was super nice and insured, traffic wasn't messed up too much because we were able to get off the road and the tow truck driver was cute.

You guys have already heard about how much I love my express lanes and how I don't mind paying to use them. Well, on Sunday afternoon I couldn't use the express lanes because they were closed for some reason. Had they been opened I wouldn't have been in the lane I was in and my car would be fine. But then again, I wouldn't have gotten to see the cute tow truck driver and I wouldn't have anything to post about tonight either. So, I guess everything does work out OK in the end. lol!

I was driving north on the interstate when the guy in the lane to my right came over into my lane. He didn't sideswipe me though. It was more like he was trying to make a left hand turn for absolutely no reason at all. He hit my tire. My tire blew out and while it was kind of scary I managed to stay in my lane and not hit anyone else. It happened right before an exit so we were able to get off the road and not cause traffic to back up too much for too long.

The guy couldn't have been nicer. Well, I guess NOT hitting me would have been nicer, but he got out of his car right away and made sure I wasn't hurt. He admitted right away that it was his fault and that saved lots of time when the police arrived. His story was that he was trying to avoid something in the road. However, the only thing I saw in the road was my hubcap as it rolled away after he hit me. lol!

Well, just in case you guys haven't been able to figure it out yet I am so NOT the person you want to be trapped with during an emergency. I tend to make "panic" look calm. If I were in a movie with an emergency scene, I'd be the person they slap in the face to calm down. So, here's how my conversation with the police went.

Police Officer: Can you tell me what happened?
ME: (totally serious) I don't know I didn't see it.
Police Officer: Ummm...weren't you driving?
ME: Yeah. He just hit me. I don't know why.

When I told Orange Croc Guy about this, he said I was lucky they didn't make me walk the line to prove that I wasn't drunk. lol!

The guy's car had to be towed away, but mine didn't. The tow truck driver said he could just put my spare tire on and send me on my way. I was worried about there being damage I just couldn't see, but other than the car really needing to be realigned now it drives ok. I did ask the cute tow truck driver to stay behind as I was driving away just to make sure I didn't have a problem. He was nice enough to do just that, but he wasn't willing to follow me all the way home.

I have to replace the tire and the rim because it took most of the hit and is bent all out of shape. Hopefully, his insurance company will spring for all new rims so I'm not stuck trying to find one that matches the others on the car.

I was a little sore today, but other than that I'm fine and I know how lucky that makes me!

Thank you, Olay Regenerist!

I don't drink coffee or sodas with caffeine in them. I can't stand the taste of coffee and the caffeine in soft drinks totally messes with my sleep habits. So, I always shower in the morning to wake myself up.

Now, I know that we're all supposed to be Earth conscience, but sometimes in the evenings, a girl just needs a long hot relaxing bath or maybe even another shower. It washes away the dirt and grim from the day and is just so relaxing you gotta love it. I've even been known to soak in the tub until the water gets cold and then drain some of that out to add more hot water. lol!

Well, last night was one of the nights when I needed a relaxing shower. So, I had the water turned up just as hot as I could stand it and I could feel my body relaxing as a result. It was wonderful!

I was so relaxed that it took me a minute or two to realize that my shampoo just wasn't working right. I finally realized that it was because I was washing my hair with my facial cleanser. I kind of freaked out and rinsed the cleanser out of my hair hoping that my hair wouldn't come out with it. lol!

My hair is very fine and thin and has absolutely no curl, but as it dried I noticed that it felt soft and full of body. So, I just had to check myself out in the mirror. Let me tell you...I was having a seriously GOOD hair night! Too bad I was too tired to go out and show it off. lol! I called my neighbor and told her to come over to see my beautiful hair, but she was jealous and wouldn't come.

As I went to bed I got a little worried that my hair might fall out while I was sleeping. Then I started thinking about how horrible that would be if it fell out and never grew back. Or, even worse, what if it fell out and then grew back in some weird color. I don't know how to not be a blonde! Needless to say, I did some serious tossing and turning last night!

I was very relieved this morning to wake up with hair that was still blonde. It was rather rumpled from all the tossing and turning, but it was perfectly moisturized and had fewer visible wrinkles. lol!

The Day Ginger Snapped part 10

Download wordart here
This is finally the end of the fourth chapter. lol!

Are you sure you want to keep reading this?

"Oh my God, girl, I know that story has got to be true because no one could make that crap up!"

"Thanks, Hal. I believe he definitely gets a tally mark on the loser side of the board."

"It's already been added and I'm about to give everyone a round on the house. Now, just tell us when you'll be back and we'll make sure to have a pitcher of Margaritas waiting for you."

"Um, Hal, is everyone still listening?"

"Yeah, Ginger, we're still here. We can hear you." Several different voices called out.

"Good, then I only have to say this one time. I'm not coming back, at least not yet. I've already made arrangements to take the rest of the school year off."

"Ginger, you get your crazy butt back down here right now or I'm coming after you with a white jacket myself." Gail screamed into the phone and I was afraid that she might actually try to come through the phone line to get me.

"Bonnie and I will be right there to help her!" Linda slurred

"Ginger, it's Bonnie, if you don't come back to work what will you do?"

"Oh Bonnie, I knew you would understand. I've got more old boyfriends to look up. I've found one loser and I just know that there has to be more."

"I'm telling you that the girl has snapped! Call the police and have them trace this call! She needs to be committed!" Gail screamed at the top of her lungs to anyone who would listen.

"Ginger, you're about to go farther down a road that you might not really want to travel. The problem is that by the time you figure it out, it might be too late for you."

"I'm a big girl, Bonnie. I know what I'm doing. I'll be fine." I was starting to wonder myself if I had made a mistake.

"Ginger, I have to go to the bathroom now. Bye."

"Bye, Linda. I promise to call back next week and fill you in on everything."

I think I've lost it...again!

Download wordart here

Today was our 90th day of school and that means we're halfway through another school year. It also means that Zero the Hero was supposed to make an appearance, but guess which teacher forgot to pick up the treats.

Can you guess?

Did you guess me?

Why would you think that I would forget something so important and so fun?

OK, so you're right...I forgot.

Sadly....my class DIDN'T forget.

As soon as I opened the door to let them in class this morning I heard, "Is today Zero the Hero day?" (That was when I realized that I forgot to remember to buy the treats.) I stood there trying to think of something to say when I was met with, "It it Zero the Hero Day.", "You said it was." "You said it was the 90th day of school." (Why did they pick today to actually remember what I say?)

I said that I hoped he would come to visit and that we would just have to wait and see. Then I went through the rest of the morning trying to ignore the fact that I forgot what an important day it was.

I really did PLAN to run to the store during lunch and pick up some kind of snack, but I was doing such a good job of ignoring the important day that I completely forgot to go. I picked my class up from lunch and led them back to the class. I stood there holding the door open for them to enter and instead of being greeted with the usual hugs all I got was, "Was there a note on the door?" (Drats! They were looking for a note from Zero the Hero and I didn't even remember to leave that!)

As the kids entered the room and saw that there was no Zero shaped snack waiting for them, they didn't even try to hide their disappointment. I sprang into action and kindly but firmly starting Blaming Zero the Hero!

ME: I don't know why we didn't get a snack. We've been good all day.

VARIOUS KIDS: Where is he? Did you do something?"

ME: I was in the room the whole time because I wanted to see him and he never came by.

WELL, those little traitors immediately took Zero's side and started blaming me!

VARIOUS KIDS: Why didn't you leave? You should have just left! We didn't get a snack because of Ms. Brown! What are we going to do now? Can you call him?

I wanted the kids to get mad at Zero the Hero, but they got mad at me instead. Well, I'm also Zero the Hero, so either way I guess they were going to get mad at me. But, if they had gotten mad at Zero the Hero they wouldn't have known they were mad at me and I would still have looked like the good guy.

Since I can't beat them I'm just going to join them! If I can remember to stop at the store in the morning (because I already forgot to stop on my way home from school) I'll pick up a snack and leave it out during lunch with a note from Zero the Hero saying that he stopped by on the 90th day, but didn't come in because Ms. Brown was in the room and he was in a hurry.

The kids should love that!

The Day Ginger Snapped part 9

Download wordart here

Well, it's been a long time since I've been in this area, but as I was driving to John's trailer I couldn't help but feel like I recognized the area. Some things never change and this neighborhood was one of them. As I got closer to the turn off, I realized where I was. This was the same neighborhood that John had lived in when we were in high school. The houses had been older but well kept back then.. Now, they were just older.

I passed the small wood frame house that John had lived in with his mother and took the dirt road turn off just as I had been instructed to do. Imagine my surprise when the road ended up in his mother's backyard! There, less than twenty feet from her backdoor was the silver tin can trailer that John was so very proud of.

There was movement in a window of his mother's house and John came walking out of her back door before I had a chance to get out of my car. He came up to my car and opened the door for me. "I hope you didn't have any trouble finding us back here."

"Oh no, I kind of remembered the roads. Isn't this your mother's house? Do you live with her?"

John motioned for me to follow him into his trailer as he spoke. "I lived with her for awhile when I got out of prison, but she said that a man should have his own home. So, she bought me this used trailer and let me park it back here. To be honest with you, I don't really think she wanted me to move out at all. I think she likes having me around.

Yeah, right!

I looked around the trailer, which didn't take long. You could pretty much see everything and touch everything from where I was standing. However, I wouldn't recommend the touching part. He had a small television set with rabbit ears sitting on an empty milk crate. He had a lawn chair sitting less than two feet in front of it with more milk crates stacked on top of each other to make an end table beside the chair. There were several empty beer cans on and around all of that.

The kitchen was smaller than what I've seen in many efficiency hotel rooms. The refrigerator was dorm sized and sat under a board that folded down to serve as a table or an ironing board. There was a toaster oven and a hot plate. I saw several empty boxes from
frozen dinners in the overflowing trash can.

The bedroom looked more like a closet than an actual room and the door was permanently opened because the twin mattress on the floor blocked it and made it impossible to close. I can't be sure but I think the bed had the same purple elephant sheets on it that he had used on his bed back in high school. There were a couple of boxes sitting right by the bed and I could tell that they were being used as dresser drawers.

There was a small door to the left of the bedroom entrance and I can only assume that it was the bathroom, but I wasn't brave enough to actually find out for sure.

"Well, I can see that you've really made this place your own."

"What can I say. A man's home is his castle. I'm about starved. How about you?"

"Well, I can't say that I'm starved, but I'm ready to get out of here any time you are. I'll even drive."

"You're my kind of woman."

Stop winking at me, you freak!

As soon as he said that he turned around and walked out the door and I ran out right behind him feeling like I needed a shower.

We had just gotten to my car and were about to get in when we heard his mother yelling from inside her house, "John, John, I know you can hear me! Get in here and get this phone call! It's your probation officer! He says you're late for your appointment, AGAIN! You get in here right now, before I tan your hide!"

John got that same dumb, 'I've been bad, but I know you'll forgive me' look on his face that I had seen so many time in high school. Before he had a chance to say anything, I told him that he better go take care of things before they got any worse and that we could always do lunch another day.

He made me promise that we would, then he slammed my car door and walked toward his mother's back door yelling, "I'm coming, momma. Don't get your panties in an uproar."

I got in the car and drove myself to the closest bar I could find. I ordered a Margarita for myself and a round for everyone else in the place. Of course, there were only two other people in the dive, but I didn't care. I felt like celebrating.

Somedays...

The margaritas I had when I finally got home made it a little better though. Now, I'm going to bed so I can get up and try again tomorrow.

Well, at least I'm funny...

Download wordart here

I know I'm not super model beautiful and even though I have bad hair days and "I don't feel like wearing make-up" days; I still feel like I'm normal people pretty. I mean, I probably won't cause traffic to stand still because everyone is watching me cross the street, but I'm also not the ugly lady that scares children on Halloween.

As a Kindergarten teacher, I've got this idea in my head that as my students grow up and think back on their school years they will remember me a being pretty and funny and having a great singing voice. I realize that I can't sing, but they're five and have no problem with the way I sing "Mother Gooney Bird". So, why shouldn't they remember me as being a great singer?

Today, I'm sitting on the playground when one of my former students and big brother of one of my current students comes over. He hugged me and we talked quickly before he gave me another hug and headed off for class.

As he walked away, one of my shy girls who had come over to hear what we were talking about stood there staring at me for a minute before she asked, "Why was he looking at you like you're pretty?"

I pretended to be offended by her question and answered, "Because, I am pretty!"

She stood there and with absolutely no change in her expression said, "You're funny." Then she walked off to play again.

I laughed! I laughed until I started thinking about just how long it has been since I've had trick or treaters come to my door for Halloween.

OMG! Maybe I am the scary Halloween lady!

Cute guys, elevators and me...

Download wordart here

My Friday morning started when I followed two cute guys out to the parking garage. One was in his nice business suit and the other was in his doctor scrubs. They held the elevator for me so I had to get on with them. Business Suit Guy pushes the button for the third level and Doctor Scrubs Guy pushes the button for the fourth level. I laughed and pushed the button for the fifth level.

As soon as the elevator door closed I remembered that I was actually parked on the third level. I didn't want to admit that I had pushed the wrong button so I just stood and told each guy to have a nice day as he exited the elevator and I rode up to the fifth level. After getting off the elevator I took the stairs back down to the third level to get to my car.

I should have just taken the stairs like I always do. I have a history of embarrassing myself when I'm on an elevator with a cute guy. I should have known I was doomed getting on with two cuties!

"Please tell us that's the last you saw of him!" Linda spit out between laughing fits.

"You didn't really go to his trailer, did you?" Bonnie asked with a worried sound in her voice.

"Ginger, you really need professional help. Don't be afraid to ask for it!" Gail practically screamed into the phone.

"You guys need to quiet down and listen to the rest of my story. It only gets better!"

"Hang on, some of us need to take a bathroom break and get another drink before you tell any more." Said a voice that I didn't even recognize.

"OK, go ahead. I'll wait." I laughed.

"Ginger, listen, it's Gail again. I've made a couple of calls and there is a very nice private hospital you can go to up there. No one but the two of us will ever know. Everyone else will think you're still out chasing this stupid loser you've found." Gail stage whispered into the phone.

"Gail, I think you're the one that needs help. Have you forgotten that you're standing in the middle of a crowded bar talking to me on speaker phone?" It was all so funny at this point that I couldn't even be mad at her.

"Darn! No, I didn't forget. I was just hoping that you had." Gail passed the phone off to someone else.

"Hey, Ginger! It's me Grace. Can you hear me?"

"Yes, I can and I think that everyone else in North Carolina can too."

"You should be here! Why aren't you here? I've got a new boy toy that I want you to meet." Grace yelled happily.

"Grace, are you drunk?"

"Yes I am! Thanks for asking!"

"Are you guys ready for the rest of my story now?"

"Sure, go ahead. We can catch everyone else up later."

Have you ever been so tired that you can't sleep? Well, that's wow tired I am now. I laid down earlier thinking I would be asleep before my head hit the pillow, but no such luck.

The first day back at school went smoothly. The kids were all just as tired as I was. The fact that most of the kids were there as soon as the building opened up this morning let me know that lots of moms were happy to get them back in school. lol!

I'm going to try to sleep again. Enjoy your day!
